6 Common Beauty Habits That Sabotage Your Skin

You are aware of it’s a sin to go to bed without cleaning up your face ( right ? ! ) , but that’s merely one of the many common bad habits that can definitely screw with your skin layer.

To Learn the most unforgivable beauty blunders , we talked to board certified dermatologist Debra Luftman , M .D . , co-author of The Beauty Prescription and dermatologist for Easy skincare . Brace yourself for some tough love-trust us , your skin definitely will thank you later!

Skincare Mistakes

Mistake #1: You stack on the products
We have all done it-you come across excellent reviews about a new treatment and then without delay wish, Omigod, I need that! Before you realize it, your beauty collection consists of toners, moisturizers, scrubs, retinols, cleansers, creams, even more. Not only is applying all of these products excessive and time-consuming, but you run the risk of irritating your skin layer. According to Luftman, your day-to-day skincare routine should really cap off at three to four products. “You require a cleanser, daily sunscreen, and a treatment-oriented product-like a moisturizer, acne treatment, or anti-aging product”.

If you’re repetitively tempted by a brand new mask or cream that you bought, ensure that is stays out of sight so that you only consider it once in a while. And also nix harsh scrubs and toners from your daily routine-they should only be used a few times in one week.

Mistake #2: You skimp on sleep and water
There’s a reason your face has a resemblance to a celeb mug shot after a night of partying. “Sleep and hydration are essential for skin health”. Not getting enough water might possibly leave your skin thirsty, turning it into look dry in addition to dull, thus ensure that you’re drinking enough water every day (and it’s need not just eight glasses!). And hitting the sheets a bit of earlier can certainly help give you a healthier glow. “Sleep is so important for skin turnover and for blood volume coming to the skin”. “It simply makes all the difference in the world.” Remain fresh-faced by focusing on the well-advised 7-8 hours of sleep every night.

Mistake #3: You choose products that attempt to do too much
When one single product assures you clearer skin , fewer wrinkles, and smaller pores , who would not want to snatch that up? The problem: It’s highly unlikely that a product will contain enough of each ingredient to live up to all of those claims-and if does, it’s most likely too harsh for your skin. “Women are now tending to use products that multitask . Unfortunately, which means selecting products with more and often irritating ingredients”. Suggestion: Check out the ingredient label-anything after the first three ingredients is not doing much. Rather than, stick to products with lesser ingredients which are focusing on a particular issue.

Mistake #4: You put on products a bit haphazardly
Certainly, it actually matters which products you put on first, which ones you combine, and when you apply them! When it comes to layering products, you prefer to put on the treatment-oriented product first. For example, if you’re using a retinol or acne treatment, it is advisable to apply that before a basic moisturizer. And talk to a dermatologist before trying more than one product with irritating ingredients, like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid-two common OTC acne-fighters. Finally, use harsher products like retinols at night, since they can make your skin more sun sensitive.

Mistake #5: You keep your makeup on at the gym
We understand it can be a bit unnerving to work out completely bare-faced, but your skin layer will be better for it. Sometimes mineral makeup formulas that guarantee they won’t clog your skin pores can still lead you to break out after a sweat session. Keep makeup removing wipes in your gym bag so that you have no excuses. Feeling too exposed? You can get away with putting a very basic tinted moisturizer-just ensure it’s oil free.

Mistake #6: You’re skipping a daily sunscreen
We know you have heard it a million times, but it’s well worth repeating: “The most essential part not to skip on a daily basis is the usage of an SPF,”. Not only can it protect you against sunburns and skin cancer, but new research found that people who use a daily sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher possess considerably younger-looking skin. Suggestion: Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15, an oil-free formula that shields against UVA and UVB rays. In this case, it’s fine to let a moisturizer pull double-duty as a sunscreen ( See mistake #3 ). If you are planning to be in the sun for an extended time period, make sure to layer on something a little stronger-like SPF 30 or higher.
